Duncan played AAA in brantford and cambridge growing up. After minor hockey he moved on and played jr c for the simcoe storm as a 17 year old. He then played for the jr c paris mounties where he won OHA player of the month in December of 2008. He attended NCAA combine in boston in 2008 and the Montreal Canadians development camp in August 2008 in Arn Prior Ontario.
